Guelph, Erin and southern Wellington County are still under a thunderstorm warning, while northern Wellington County and Waterloo Region are watching for a less severe storm. Environment Canada says winds could gust up to 90 km/h and “tornadoes cannot be ruled out either.” The national weather service warns that rainfall in excess of 50mm is possible across the region. In northern Wellington County, up to 75mm could fall in some areas. Storms are expected to continue into the evening. Environment Canada issues tornado warnings when impending or developing storms are likely to produce or produce tornadoes.
WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF REFORM
If you hear a roar or see a funnel cloud, debris swirling near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, evacuate immediately. Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from exterior walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell, or closet. Leave RVs, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or self-contained shelter and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie down in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when it roars, go indoors!
