The shootings took place around 1 am, after midnight prayers for Ramadan. Toronto police said five people were shot in an apparently accidental shooting. None of the victims’ injuries are considered life-threatening.
In a tweet Sunday, the Ottawa Police Department said it was monitoring the investigation and that patrols had increased around religious institutions.
Toronto police said Saturday it was too early to determine the motive, but the hate crime unit is involved.
