Police responded to reports of gunshots in a parking lot on Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East around 1 a.m. Saturday. Four men were found at the scene with gunshot wounds, police said. Two of the victims were taken to a local hospital and the other two were taken to a trauma center. A fifth male victim also went to the hospital alone, police said. All the victims suffered seriously but not life-threateningly. The victims are between 28 and 35 years old. Police said the suspects allegedly fled the scene in a blue car, but no other details about the suspects have been released. Const. David Hopkinson said he was glad the brazen shot had not had a worse effect. “We have and have found bullet holes in other cars and in other areas around it. “If there were other people nearby, they could easily have been hit by stray bullets and that could have ended very tragically,” he told CP24 on Saturday morning. We are very, very lucky. “I say lucky – we have five victims in the hospital – but we are lucky that most people were not injured.” Anyone with information is required to contact the police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
