Fragile supports
Weakness in set-piece defense was a problem for Spurs last season. And it looks like there’s still work to be done on this. Ibanez rose above Lorenzo Pellegrini’s corner to head past the flat-footed Hugo Lloris as Roma opened the scoring. Conte will be hoping the signing of Clement Lenglet, who was on the bench at the time of the goal, will help with that.
Perisic looks ready
Ivan Perisic hasn’t featured much in pre-season since his free transfer from Inter Milan. Conte gave him his first start in a Spurs shirt in Haifa and he did not disappoint. Despite being 33, he proved he still has what it takes to be a regular threat at left wing-back. Conte knows Perisic better than most from their time together at Inter and he clearly fits into the Italian’s system far better than Sergio Regillon, who is out of the picture.
