Arizona Republican Chairman Rusty Bowers vowed never to vote for former President Donald Trump and said “America is sick of him.” Mr. Bowers, who drew the ire of the Arizona Democratic Party for his Jan. 6 committee testimony, said he was unapologetic about his congressional testimony and his decision not to overturn the state’s election results. “I will never vote for him,” he said. “But it won’t be necessary, because I think America is tired. And there are absolutely strong, qualified, morally, defensive and upright people. And that’s what I want. This is what I want in my party. And that’s what I want to see.” Explaining Mr Trump’s hold on Republican leaders, Mr Bowers claimed those who support the former president “rule by thuggery and intimidation”. “Well you know, they found a niche, they found a way and it’s fear, and people can use fear, demagogues like to use fear as a weapon,” he said. “And they weaponize everything, and we all know it. But that’s not a leadership role for me to use thuggery.”

‘Trump Regulation’: Rusty Bowers Speaks Out Against Trumpism After Jan. 6 Testimony
Arizona House Republican Speaker Rusty Bowers has spoken out against Trumpism in a deepening feud with former President Donald Trump over his Jan. 6 committee testimony. Responding to the former president’s attacks in evidence before the select committee, Mr Bowers said: “I have thought at times that someone was born the way he was – he has no idea what hard life is and what people have to go through in the real to the real people. He has no idea what courage is and the last place on Earth I would want to do harm would be the state of Arizona.” “How do you explain the persistence it has, however, with Republicans, including many Republican leaders here in Arizona?” ABC News’ chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl asked. “They rule by thuggery and intimidation. So you know, they found a niche, they found a way and it’s fear, and people can use fear, demagogues like to use fear as a weapon. And they weaponize everything, and we all know it. But that’s not a leadership role for me to use thuggery,” Mr. Bowers said. Read the details in this report by Gustaf Kilander:

Trump apologized to Cruz for insulting wife and father during campaign, memoir reveals
Donald Trump apologized to Ted Cruz for insulting his wife and father during the 2016 campaign, a new memoir by the former president’s then-campaign manager Paul Manafort has revealed. “On his own initiative, Trump apologized for saying some of the things he said about Cruz, which was unusual for Trump,” Manafort wrote in his book Political Prisoner: Persecuted, Prosecuted, But Not Silenced, the Guardian. In 2016, Mr. Trump suggested that Mr. Cruz’s wife was ugly, linked his father to the assassination of John F. Kennedy and questioned whether he was born in Canada. ‘America is tired’ of Trump, says Rusty Bowers Arizona Democratic Party spokesman Rusty Bowers
In a stunning statement, Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers vowed never to vote for former President Donald Trump, saying “America is tired.” “I will never vote for him, but I won’t have to,” Mr. Bowers told ABC News. “Because I think America is tired and there are some absolutely strong, capable, morally upstanding people, and that’s what I want. That’s what I want at my party and that’s what I want to see.” The statement comes nearly a month after he told The Associated Press in June this year that he would support his former top boss “if he ran, if he was against Biden.” Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers testifies during the fourth hearing on the January 6 investigation at the Cannon House Office Building on June 21, 2022 in Washington, DC (Getty Images) “Simply because what he did the first time, pre-Covid, was so good for the county. In my opinion it was wonderful.” The Republican, who has also testified before the House Select Committee to investigate the Jan. 6 capitol riot, told the newspaper that he did not “trust that authority” that Mr. Trump “would exercise.” “I’ve thought, from time to time, that someone born the way they were, raised the way they were—has no idea what a hard life is. And what people have to go through in the real – in the real world. He has no idea what courage is.” Namita Singh1 August 2022 05:07 1659320400

Joe Biden sends pizza to burn protesters in pit after Republicans block veterans bill
Joe Biden is using his time in isolation for Covid to highlight the Republican Party’s resistance to legislation aimed at helping sick US veterans. In a video posted on Twitter on Sunday, the president singled out protesters camped out on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to denounce Republicans who have yet to support legislation that would authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs to assume that U.S. veterans who worked around so-called “burn pits” during their military service are thought to have been exposed to toxic substances. Republicans led by Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania are demanding an amendment to the bill that would tie its funding to the annual appropriations process, rather than giving it an immediate, designated funding line. Democrats have accused their opponents of fomenting unnecessary delays in what they believe will be retaliation for reviving the Build Better Act in the form of the Inflation Reduction Act, a limited piece of legislation aimed both at fighting inflation and addressing other issues such as prescription drug prices and climate change. On Sunday, Biden released a video filled with images of sick veterans holding signs denouncing the GOP for inaction on the bill, which Democrats hope to vote on in the coming days. “I plan to go through the Capitol and visit families who are fighting to pass the burn legislation. Covid got in the way so I FaceTimed them and sent some pizza. It is our sacred duty to care for our veterans. I will not stop fighting with them to get this bill passed,” Biden tweeted.

Doctor: Biden tests positive for COVID for 2nd straight day
President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second day in a row, in a rare case of “recovery” after treatment with an antiviral drug. In a letter noting the positive test, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the White House physician, said Sunday that the president “continues to feel well” and will continue to work from the executive residence while in isolation. Biden tested positive on Saturday, requiring him to cancel travel and personal events as he will self-isolate for at least five days, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. After initially testing positive on July 21, Biden, 79, was treated with the antiviral drug Paxlovid. He tested negative for the virus last Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting him to leave isolation wearing a mask indoors. Research suggests that a minority of those prescribed Paxlovid experience a rebound of the virus. The fact that a recovery and not a re-infection probably occurred is a positive sign for Biden’s health once he is cleared of the disease.

Mr. Bowers testified before a House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 after voting for Trump in 2016 and 2020. But the speaker did not buy into the lie being peddled by the former president and his allies that the 2020 election were stolen by Mr. Trump. Mr. Bowers, 69, was censured by the Arizona GOP a month after his testimony. On June 21, Mr. Bowers told the committee that Trump pressured him to overturn the results in Arizona, a state narrowly won by President Joe Biden. “I don’t want to be a winner by cheating, I won’t play by laws I swore to,” he said at the time. “Rusty Bowers is a cowardly RINO who ran against the Republican Party in the all-partisan non-selective committee of political thugs and hacks the other day and shame on you…
