Starting March 22, the secret drug police street team launched an operation to block trafficking on CTrain platforms. It came in response to increased calls for service on and near platforms for drug use, overdoses and violence. Throughout the investigation, which lasted until April 1, police arrested 22 people and issued a total of 115 charges, including trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of property obtained from a crime, breach of a court order and possession of a prohibited weapon. Eight of the suspects were wanted on 77 irrelevant warrants for previous alleged offenses and misconduct. Police seized crack cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, psilocybin and unknown pills.

“We have already seen the impact of this targeted enforcement,” said Staff Sgt. Kyle Grant from the CPS Secret Operations Unit. “The people of Calgary deserve to feel safe moving around our city, even when crossing, and we will continue to monitor crime trends so that we can target drug trafficking areas.” Police ask anyone with information on drug trafficking in the community to call 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous advice via Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
