A spokesman for the Upper Grand District School confirmed to CBC News that the SUV driver was a teacher at Alma Public School. “This is a terrible situation and our thoughts are with the teacher’s family and loved ones, students and the entire Alma Public School community,” Peter Sovran, the council’s director of education, said in a statement. “We will do everything we can to support the family, the students and the staff.” The council’s crisis teams were at the school on Thursday to provide additional support to students and injury support to staff. The board also communicates directly with staff, students and parents, the spokesman said, adding that if parents believe their child needs extra support, they should contact their school principal. The Wellington OPP said the school bus had 12 students at the time. The spokesman said 11 students were from Alma Public School and one student was from Elora Public School. “Fortunately, no one on the school bus was seriously injured, but its driver [SUV] he was found dead on the spot, “said Const. Joshua Cunningham in a video posted to his @OPP_WR Twitter account. Police were called to the intersection of the Fourteenth Line and Sideroad 21 at 15:30 for reports of a serious collision. Anyone who may have seen the collision please contact Wellington OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
