Mohammed Iqbal, 19, sold the car to the man and then asked him to drive, police said. She also broke into the man’s home, stole his bank card, prevented him from buying food and physically and sexually assaulted him. Iqbal, from St Catherine Street, Wakefield, was convicted of six counts at Leeds Crown Court and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He must also build another two years with an extended leave. His actions came to light in May 2021, when the victim was seriously attacked and police officers were called. Inspector Kristy Wright said: “When police found the victim, they had beaten him in black and blue and he was too scared to talk to us for fear of repercussions. “This was a painful period for the victim who was exploited and lived in fear for over a month without his own fault. “Iqbal took advantage of someone who was vulnerable and deprived him of his basic rights. “I would like to applaud him for the bravery he spoke and shared his experience, which led to this wonderful result today.” West Yorkshire Police said the conviction for modern slavery was the first of its kind in the Wakefield area.
