A polar bear spotted wandering in and around Grates Cove on the edge of the Bay de Verde Peninsula was safely captured yesterday by security officers and taken to a more remote location. Locals say the bear appears to have come ashore in the nearby Red Head Cove area. This has been a busy year for polar bear observations across the Northeast Coast from Black Tickle in Labrador to St. Louis. Anthony, Goose Cove, Fogo, Greenspond and the Avalon Peninsula. People are reminded to give plenty of space to polar bears, never crowded with animals and stay out of the wind. If you see a polar bear or animal markings in your area, contact the RCMP or your nearest wildlife office.
