“Thank God a witness had taken a picture of him,” Knudson said. “Another witness spotted him at the exit of the tube area, where he was taken into custody.” The victims and the suspect were going down to the river around 3:45 p.m., he said. The attack occurred near the town of Somerset, near the Minnesota border to the north and east of Stillwater. The Apple River has long been a popular summer recreation destination for residents of the Twin Cities. “We don’t yet know who connected with who, who knew each other or what caused it,” Knudson said. “It’s a tragic day.” Two victims were taken to the hospital and two were transported by ambulance. All were in critical condition. Their names and the suspect’s were not immediately released.
