SOMERSET, Wis. (FOX 9) – Some of the people who came to the rescue of five people who were stabbed while rafting down the Apple River in Wisconsin recounted the terrifying moments as they dealt with the wounded victims. A stabbing attack Saturday afternoon in Somerset, Wisconsin claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy from Stillwater and injured four others. A 52-year-old man from Prior Lake, Minnesota is now being held at the St. Croix County for the assault. Mark Olson and his family were part of a chaotic scene on the water in Somerset. “All we heard was ‘call 911 call 911,’” Mark Olson said. “It was just scary because we didn’t know where this person was or what they were doing,” Spencer Olson said. Olson and his team were only minutes away from the attack. They met the victims on the shoreline, surrounded by 15 to 20 people trying to help them. “Scrambling and then there’s these kids who were with him who died, like ‘how could this happen, how could this happen’ and it was just very traumatic, very traumatic,” Mark explained. The four surviving victims are now at Regions Hospital with multiple stab wounds throughout the torso and chest.

“The first one they were giving CPR, then the next one, they were just telling him it’s going to be OK, it’s going to be OK,” said Kat Fenton, another witness. Out of the water, Kat Fenton says she helped the father of one of the victims who sped toward her home nearby. “I saw blood on his shirt and he was crying,” Fenton said. “I went in and touched his arm and said I’m just going to walk you through and show you where you need to go.” An hour later, at the end of the River Run, Mark Olson’s family watched as this 52-year-old suspect was arrested. “All of a sudden his hat was taken off and then he was dragged away and he was as calm as he could be with his wife there,” Mark added.
