The Florida Highway Patrol said the soldiers responded at 3:30 p.m. in the collision where the woman was hit by a driver as she was walking along the grass of 301 Street south of Desrosier Street, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Police said the driver fled in a sedan, hit a traffic sign and returned to the freeway shortly before coming out again and running over the woman’s body, which resulted in her being cut off. More than an hour later, another driver in a truck disobeyed police orders to stop and drove to the scene of the collision at high speed, running over the woman’s body and almost hitting two deputy officers. The driver of the truck, who was identified by police as 23-year-old Andrew Thomas Krummen, did not stop, prompting police to chase him in a high-speed chase that lasted about 10 minutes before they caught him. Police are still investigating the initial beating and running incident and are looking for the driver who escaped, but arrested Krumen and kept him in Pasco County Jail. The 23-year-old was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless driving, DUI, flight and escape, destruction of evidence and driving with a revoked license, according to the Tampa Bay Times. He was also charged with falsely imprisoning two passengers, a 33-year-old Brooksville man and a 35-year-old woman, Dade City, who were with him in the vehicle and tried to destroy police officers, according to Fox 8. Another beating and running incident occurred last month in Detroit, Illinois, where a driver was charged with murder for driving over a 40-year-old woman. The driver, 31-year-old Shedrica Odessa Smith, was also charged with assault with intent to commit murder in connection with the beating and running. In February, a pedestrian was killed in a collision and run in New York State. The driver did not stop after hitting the victim who was left on the windshield of the vehicle for 2.4 miles, according to police. Also in February, two 12-year-olds were hit by two different vehicles while sledding in Oklahoma. The incident left one boy dead and the other injured, according to police.
