The Ottawa Fire received several calls to 911 that reported flames visible from the third floor of a house in Gladecrest Court shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
“911 callers reported that everyone had left the house, but a cat was still inside,” firefighters said in a statement.
Firefighters were able to see thick black smoke and flames as they responded to the fire.
The Ottawa Fire says firefighters were able to quickly put out the main body of the fire, which was in a bedroom on the third floor.
Firefighters were able to locate the cat inside the house and bring it to safety.
Ottawa paramedics say an adult woman was treated for light smoke inhalation.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
FIRE IN METKALFE
One person was treated by paramedics after a fire at Metcalfe.
The Ottawa Fire says a tenant on Derby Street called 911 shortly after 4 p.m. stating that their house was on fire.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered a fire in an upstairs bedroom.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
