Rebellion xtinction has blocked many bridges in central London, stopping traffic. Activists marched on Westminster Bridge, Lambeth Bridge and London Bridge on Friday to protest the government’s response to climate change. Protesters also stopped traffic on Waterloo Bridge on Friday afternoon. The group said: “We will revolt for life until the government acts as if it is a climate emergency and stops all new oil and gas.” Activists are seen playing bongo and waving banners reading “end fossil fuels now” and “love of action” as they face long queues. We are seeing pockets of protest causing delays and unrest throughout central London. “A police operation is underway and police are on the scene working to manage the impact.” It comes after Just Stop Oil activists rested after a wave of protests targeted three oil terminals in early-morning raids. Protesters said they arrived in the early hours of Friday morning at Kingsbury Terminal near Tamworth, Staffordshire, as well as the Navigator Oil Terminal in Thurrock and the Grays Terminal, both in Essex. Earlier, the Extinction Rebellion paraded at the Charing Cross police station to demand the release of one of its scientists arrested outside the government’s Ministry of Operations, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Emma Smart, a marine biologist, is said to be on a hunger strike and refusing water after being denied bail before a hearing on Saturday. Smart, along with eight other scientists, was charged with criminal damage after he allegedly stuck scientific work in the government building and stuck to the glass facade. Elsewhere, activists marched through the streets of Marble Arch holding a banner reading “Love in Action.” In Essex, Just Stop Oil activists in orange hi-vis jackets sat on top of oil tankers and blocked roads holding signs. Warwickshire police said 12 arrests were made Friday morning, and police were also at the scene in Essex.
